Aiken, SC – This holiday season at the Women and Children’s Health Center, RHS hosted its annual Winter Coat Giveaway. With a $5,000 sponsorship from Molina Healthcare, we were able to give away over 200 children’s coats, hats, and gloves. Parents lined up three hours before the event started to ensure they received winter coats for their children.

Upon entering the event, the children were in for a surprise as they were welcomed with hot cocoa, Christmas movies, Santa, and toys from the Salvation Army of Aiken. The initiative served as a lifeline for families, helping to ensure their children stayed warm and healthy.

“You know, the reality is that not every single child has a coat, not every single child has a hat to keep them warm, or even gloves,” said David Irizarry, Senior Growth Specialist at Molina Healthcare. “By providing these items, we’re able to keep children warm and healthy during the winter months.”

The event also provided much-needed relief for parents, easing their worries during a financially stressful season.

“Coming from one mother to another, you know how hard it is, and you do everything that you can to make sure that your child has what they need,” said Sierra Sheppard, Public Relations Specialist and Event Coordinator for Rural Health Services. “Having this and being able to provide coats and knowing that your child will be warm is one less thing you have to worry about.”

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of community partnerships in addressing the needs of families in Aiken, especially during the colder months.
